Train to Teach
Stour Vale currently runs Professional Studies sessions (also known as School Training) which take place on Friday mornings for trainees with the University of Worcester. For Secondary these are weekly sessions and for Primary, they alternate between school and University on a weekly basis. Held at both Halesowen College and across some of our trust schools, our PS programmes help our trainees to develop an appreciation of different contexts as well as hearing first-hand from a range of experienced, excellent practitioners.
PS sessions cover the full range of knowledge and skills required to understand life in school and are drawn up and reviewed annually alongside headteachers and university lecturers. Our trainees cover topics such as behaviour management, differentiation, safeguarding and lesson planning to name just a few.
We also focus on key aspects of educational practice that supplements trainees’ subject knowledge, pedagogical understanding of educational issues and awareness of the wider educational landscape and retain some flexibility to meet the changing needs of our individual cohorts of trainees. For instance, we have recently run a session on video instruction to reflect the current situation in schools post-covid and make sure our trainees are equipped with the skills and knowledge that they need to be successful in school.
